About Saltus

Saltus is a South African composite manufacturer producing filament-wound poles and modular building pods from its factory in Pretoria. We combine continuous glass fibre, hemp bast fibre and UV-stable resins to make products that don't rot, don't rust, don't burn — and are grown, not smelted.

Our poles serve vineyards, fencing, shade-net structures, telecoms and streetlights across southern Africa. Our pods provide low-cost shelters, guard houses, garages, classrooms and homes, deployed modularly like Lego from a 12.5 m² base unit.

Saltus is a parallel enterprise to U-Can-Grow, sharing the vision of an integrated African hemp value chain.

The Saltus story, from the founder

A walk-through of what we make, how the composite works, and why it outlasts steel and timber.

In the factory

How the composite is made

Inside our Pretoria plant, continuous glass fibre and hemp bast fibre are wound and pressed with UV-stable resin into finished poles and pod components.

Filament winding press

Our hydraulic filament-winding press compacts continuous glass and hemp fibre around a mandrel under tonnes of pressure.

Pressing a pole blank

Layer by layer, resin-wet fibre is drawn tight and set — the moment a raw material becomes a structural pole.

On the press floor

A closer look at the operator station. Every pole is wound to spec and logged before it leaves the press.

Workshop assembly

Cutting, drilling and finishing bays where poles and pod components are made ready for dispatch.

What our products do out there

From working vineyards to residential streets and stock fencing, our composite poles are already carrying load across southern Africa.

In the vineyard

Composite trellis and end-post poles in a working Cape vineyard. They won't rot, rust or leach — and they outlast the vines.

Fencing installation

Our crew planting straining and line poles for a stock-fencing run. Same install method as timber, none of the maintenance.

Urban avenue

Poles used as tree guards and bollards along a residential road — quiet, corrosion-free, and blending into the streetscape.

Street-lighting pole

A composite streetlight pole in service. No cathodic protection, no galvanising, no repaint cycle.

Decking and outdoor structures

Composite poles carrying a raised timber deck and bench system — the same material scaled for public seating and shelters.
